Sarah Crawford

Illustrator, Sarah Crawford, found she had a passion for art as a toddler when her canvas was that of sidewalks and walls which quickly blossomed from creative daily play to true talent and passion. Crawford grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho where her family, friends and teachers encouraged the development of her artistic skills. Crawford became determined to pursue an art degree which led her to Boise State University. Crawford graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Advertising Design with an emphasis in Illustration.

Boise State University

While in school, Crawford was fortunate enough to complete an internship with Ed Guthero Art Direction and Design. Crawford credits much of her knowledge of Design and Illustration to her experience of having Ed Guthero as her mentor. Since 1993, her work has been publicly displayed and admired at Boise State University, on a Mural for the magazine cover for Hart Research Center and in Illustration designs for Healthscene Magazine, just to name a few. Crawford has exhibited and received honors at numerous art shows with much recognition for her artwork. Some of these honors include: Best of Show, People’s Choice Award, 1st Place Division in Professional Illustration, the Laura Moore Cunningham Scholarship, Eastern Idaho Scholastic Art Awards, and Dean’s List at Boise State University.

Crawford’s “photo-realistic” style shows distinguished attention to fine detail and captures the emotion of the moment. Her repertoire includes black and white pencil renderings, Prismacolor, pen and ink, acrylic paintings, oil paintings, airbrush paintings, graphic art, photography and her capricious love for cartoon drawings. Crawford specializes in “Photo-Realism” which is the aim of making the painting or illustration look as real as a photo. The environment surrounding the main focal point in her paintings is often blurred to keep the viewer’s eye moving throughout the composition, until returning to the center of attention, which she tries to render in tight detail. Crawford has worked in most mediums but has found that working with oils is more exciting and produces a more vivid reproduction from the beautiful blending of colors. The primary goal of Crawford’s work is to evoke an intense emotional response in the viewer. Her ability to successfully draw out that emotion is evident in every piece of work she creates. Portrait work and Illustration are among Crawford’s favorites, especially when the subject involves a child.

Currently, Crawford works out of her studio in Meridian, Idaho. Crawford gives credit to the Lord and her son, Cade, for being her highest inspiration. Crawford’s secondary inspiration grows from her family and close friends who continually support her artistic talent and encourage her through the journey of life.

Crawford enjoys spending time with her son, golfing, softball, lifting weights, running, scrap-booking and of course…painting and drawing! Crawford donates much of her time and talent to help with fund-raising for local charities as well as teaching private art lessons to children of all ages. Crawford’s main message for her viewer’s would be the importance of using your God-given talents to touch other people’s lives and to cherish the time you have with those you love.
